Multichannel REC

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 June 2026

Multichannel REC (“the app”) is a professional multichannel audio recorder for iPhone and iPad, developed by Kaizen Audio (Álvaro de Iscar). This policy explains what the app does — and does not do — with your data.

The short version

The app has no backend and we collect nothing about you. Your recordings, metadata, photos and location tags live on your device (and, if you choose, in your own iCloud Drive). The only time any of your content leaves the device is if you deliberately turn on the optional “Cloud (Gemini)” classifier with your own Google API key — see section 4.

1. We run no servers and we don’t track you

  • We operate no backend. The app never sends your recordings, metadata, photos, or location to us. We have no analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting SDKs, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
  • We do not sell or share any personal data, because we never receive any.

2. Data that stays on your device

Everything the app produces is stored locally, inside the app’s own Documents folder (visible to you in the Files app):

DataWhyWhere it lives
Audio recordings (WAV / RF64) The core purpose of the app On device; optionally your iCloud Drive
Broadcast metadata (BWF / iXML) and JSON sidecars Scene, take, notes, technical info Inside / alongside each recording
Photos you attach Visual reference (slate, mic placement) With the recording
GPS coordinates Optional location tagging, shown on the in-app map In the recording’s sidecar
App preferences Mic, sample rate, bit depth, decoder presets, UI options On-device app settings

If you enable iCloud Drive, these files sync to your own iCloud account — that is private Apple storage we never have access to.

3. Device permissions

The app requests these only when you use the related feature, and explains each at the prompt:

  • Microphone — required to record audio from the built-in mic or a connected audio interface.
  • Location (When In Use) — optional; tags recordings with GPS so you can find them on the map. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.
  • Camera — optional; take a reference photo to attach to a recording.
  • Photo Library — optional; attach an existing photo, or save an attached photo back to your library.
  • Motion & Fitness — optional; reads head-tracking from AirPods Pro/Max/3rd-gen to rotate the Ambisonic Decoder so the sound field stays anchored as you move your head. This data is used in real time and never stored or transmitted.

4. Optional “Cloud (Gemini)” classifier — the only data that can leave your device

The app can suggest Universal Category System (UCS) tags for a recording from a short text description you type. There are two engines:

  • Offline (default). An on-device lexical search (BM25). Nothing leaves your device.
  • Cloud (Gemini) — opt-in. Only if you paste your own Google AI Studio API key and enable the cloud engine, the text description you type is sent over HTTPS to Google’s Gemini API to generate category suggestions. No other data (no audio, no location, no photos, no identity) is sent. The request is made directly from your device to Google using your key; we never see it.

When you use this optional feature, your description is processed by Google under Google’s API terms and privacy policy (ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms and policies.google.com/privacy). We recommend reviewing them. You can remove your API key or switch back to the offline engine at any time in Settings.

We do not link this text to your identity and never use it for tracking or advertising.

5. Children

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, of any age.

6. Your control

Because all data is on your device, you are in full control: delete a recording in the app, remove files in the Files app, revoke any permission in iOS Settings, or delete the app to remove everything it stored locally. iCloud copies are managed from your iCloud settings.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this URL.
